The Disney company is planning a sequel to “Frozen,” the highest grossing animated film of all time, and its protagonist should come out of the closet, according to her voice actress and a growing number of LGBT activists. Meanwhile, fans are responding negatively, with over 200,000 signing a petition urging Disney to resist the pressure.
Idina Menzel, who gives voice to lead character Elsa, gave her support to the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend campaign in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Sunday.
“I think it’s great,” she said. “Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out.” Menzel added that she would support the decision to make Elsa a lesbian “no matter what.”
Frozen 2 is scheduled for release in 2018.
