Police say the women are also suspected of planning to strike a train station in the Paris area or to target police.

Those charged with involvement in a terrorist conspiracy were named as Ines Madani, 19, Sarah Hervouet, 23, and Amel Sakaou, 39.

They were brought before anti-terrorism judges on Monday and remanded in custody.

In a statement, prosecutors said Madani and Hervouet were also charged with plotting to kill public officials, while Hervouet’s boyfriend was charged with failing to report a terrorist offence.

The women are believed by police to have been inspired by repeated calls by the Islamic State (IS) group for attacks in France.
